Wait For Me Bro!

We only realize the value of our best friends only when they move apart. When they are near, we are always there with them. When they don't live in the same city, one can suddenly feel distant. But, in this age of social networking and video calling, no one is far away. I'm going to narrate you a story about friendship that defeats time and distance to endure.

Aakash and Varun had lived the past ten years together. As they approached the end of school, they that their ways would part. They had shared many moments. On many occasions they helped each other out. Aakash backed Varun to play football for the school, while he himself captained the school in cricket. Many times, both endured punishments together.

pMany people tried to make their friendship sour, especially the bullies. Even the rumour creating gang of girls which irritated everyone. They had never let ego come in between. They always had the back of each other. The prospect of being separated in pursuit of their careers was dreadful.
After their exams were over, Varun’s father got a transfer to Jaipur. Taking the news bravely, Aakash assured that whatever be the situation they'll keep in touch. The board exam results were out. Both had performed admirably and their happiness knew no bounds. The day for Varun’s departure had come. Varun couldn’t stop his tears. Yet, both knew this was a phase. A few days later, both talked about the college they went to.

Soon enough, both would catch up on WhatsApp, after a long day, studying and trying to find new friends. Sometimes, Aakash would ask Varun to come back to Mumbai & study with him. But, Varun never agreed. Aakash & Varun decided that during the vacation, they would meet. Both helped each other in projects and life. Trouble was that with new people, their friendship was losing way.

From chasing balls on the field to chasing success, life had changed.
Soon, Diwali came and Varun came to Mumbai to meet Aakash. They had a lot of fun together. Slowly, studies and new friendships made them drift apart. A few years went by. They were now looking for jobs. Varun came back to Mumbai. Aakash and Varun commuted together. The time they travelled brought them close. Aakash always helped Varun in troubled times. Varun was grateful to have Aakash by his side.

But, fate had its role to play. They fell for the same girl and when they found this out, Aakash gave up his love for her. Inside, he felt miserable, but, he didn’t want to sour their friendship. Varun tried hard to help find the girl of his dreams. Varun was very worried about Aakash. He tried to convince Aakash that all was not over. He, was successful as soon Aakash married. The two friends had a happy life.

Two years later, Aakash left his job to start a business, he achieved moderate success. But, it didn’t last, he became broke, divorced his wife & sold his house. He tried again with the help of Varun, achieved success. Four years later, Aakash continued his lonely existence. He kept meeting his child, but, his ex-wife didn't come back. He was on the edge…Varun couldn’t help him here. He went into depression and alcohol was his solace. He never revealed his pain to Varun. This should’ve been a warning to Varun, but, he couldn’t see it.

One very drunk night, Aakash was hit by a car while crossing the road and he went into the arms of Death. Varun blamed himself for this and broke. Time never waits for you to act. So if someone close to you feels depressed, help them, as that’s what friends do....
